How to enjoy trouble-free spending while abroad

Ensure we have your correct contact details

Please make sure we have your current mobile number and that you are contactable on your phone whilst travelling. If we identify suspicious activity on your card, you will receive a text message asking you to confirm if the transaction is genuine.

Update your card linkage

To avoid paying unnecessary fees, make sure your card is linked to the correct account before you travel. You can check and amend your card linkage instantly using Citi Online.

Daily withdrawal limits

Standard daily cash withdrawal limits apply when you are travelling overseas. You may withdraw up to £2000 per day, or equivalent if withdrawing foreign currency.

Dynamic Currency Conversion: please be aware

Some shops, restaurants and ATMs abroad may offer Dynamic Currency Conversion (or 'DCC'). This gives you the option of paying in the local currency or having the transaction converted into Sterling on the spot.

If you choose to pay in the local currency, your account will be debited using the exchange rate offered by Citi. If you choose to pay in Sterling, the retailer will set the exchange rate, which may not be as competitive as the rate offered by Citi.

Important: If your card is already linked to an account in the local currency, please do not select Dynamic Currency Conversion. That way, you will prevent your transaction from being converted twice and incurring unnecessary costs.
