The Challenge
Working initially within an extremely short
timeframe due to the rollout of a new global
SAP instance, CSC’s treasury embarked on an
ambitious project that would be phased out
as follows:
• Consolidate regional treasury policies and
controls from Singapore to India
• Lift and shift shared services center (SSC)
activities for eight countries from Singapore
to India
• Consolidate operational activities for three
additional countries into the SSC in India for
the first time
• Implement host-to-host bank connectivity for
accounts payable replacing the previous file
upload and manual payment solution
• Implement XML file format for accounts
payable for the first time
The critical first phase of activities would need
to occur concurrently with a backdrop of moving
the existing Asia instance of SAP onto a new
single global SAP instance. This movement was
scheduled to occur within a short four-month
turnaround between January and April 2013,
which would coincide with the new financial
year. The challenge of migrating operations to
India and setting up host-to-host connectivity
for the first time was further accentuated by the
fact that the old and new SAP instances could
not run in parallel. All live master vendor data
had to be imported at cutover date and new
connectivity and operational activities had to
launch from the new global SAP instance at that
time. This meant that there could not be any
connectivity nor production verification testing
(PVT) using live data from the new SAP instance
until after the cutover.
