A Team Effort to Fight Card Fraud
You see the headlines. Credit cardholders have become susceptible to high-profile data breaches and attempted fraudulent activity. As technologies become increasingly more sophisticated, fraudsters have become more adept at using those technologies to access cardholder account information.
At Citi, we take your account security very seriously. There's nothing more important to us. And we are constantly enhancing our security measures to keep your confidential account information safe and secure.
We work closely with the bankcard associations, other banks and industry partners to fight fraud, sharing information on types of fraud and strategies to help prevent it. Two ways by which we are combatting unauthorized use of cardholder accounts: our Fraud Early Warning (FEW) SMS (i.e. text message) alerts and our upcoming migration to 100% Chip and PIN technology in the United States.
While Citi employs these sophisticated tools and technologies to identify potential fraud, your partnership is also important to us. Here's what you and your cardholders can do to fight fraud:
Here's what Agency/Organization Program Coordinators (AOPCs) can do
- Regularly review cardholder activity
- Compare cardholder credit limits to spending patterns and make adjustments as needed
- Subscribe to the "Audit & Compliance" reports in the Global Share Directory in the Citi Custom Reporting System (CCRS) from CitiManager, and review flagged transactions and cardholder activity
- Set up single purchase limits and/or modify existing ones on specific Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) by contacting your Client Account Services (CAS) manager
- Make sure your cardholders know to call the number on the back of their Citi Commercial Card right away if they suspect fraudulent activity
- Promote cardholder use of fraud early warning E-mail and SMS (i.e. Text) alerts
Here's what cardholders can do
- Check their transactions online each month, and report unusual activity immediately. All cardholders should have access to CitiManager for account tracking.
- Keep their cards in a secure place, not out in the open
- Don't share their PIN with others (for Chip and PIN cardholders), and never write down or record their PIN anywhere
- Confirm that their contact information (valid email address and phone numbers) is up to date in CitiManager, so Citi can contact them quickly via SMS, email or phone (if required)
