Close to 350 Citi Hungary volunteers including family members and friends worked together on June 14 to serve our city by renovating a playground, painting fences, clearing walking paths in the Budakeszi Wild Life Park and its surrounding, so that the local community can enjoy well cared for green spaces. Pilisi Parkerdő Forestry and Budakeszi Vadaspark wilde life park, Citi Hungary’s long term community partners helped organize the event.

Aftab Ahmed, Managing Director and Country Head for Hungary said, ”We had the largest number of volunteers we have ever had in Hungary and I am very proud of being part of this great team. Our volunteer team dedicated their skills and time on a wonderful Saturday morning to make a difference for the community. The team spirit and the high level of energy was exceptionally evident during the entire course of the morning.”

As more than 70,000 Citi volunteers in 479 cities spanning 93 countries around the world engaged in service activities to benefit their local communities, during the first weeks of June 2014 Citi marked its ninth annual Global Community Day. Working side-by-side, Citi colleagues, alumni, family and friends demonstrated the company’s commitment to supporting and improving communities by leading and participating in more than 1,200 service projects focused on local needs including urban revitalization, literacy and education, housing, environmental conservation, health and human services, and disaster relief.

While Citi volunteers have a strong tradition of engaging in community service year-round, Global Community Day is an annual opportunity for Citi colleagues and other participants to join together and use their time, skills and expertise to make a difference in their cities. Since its launch in 2006, more than 540,000 volunteers have participated in Citi Global Community Day activities, creating lasting impacts on cities around the world and reinforcing the idea that active corporate engagement is an essential component of a livable city.
