And Brodi shared with the audience her experience of more than 17 years in world of private equity and alternative asset management.

Description: Citi FinTech Meetups are expanding globally and the first meetup was held in Hong Kong. The meetup included a presentation on the implications of blockchain to banks followed by a panel discussion featuring prominent female FinTech investors:

  • Wei Hopeman, former Managing Director at Citi Ventures, now at Arbor Ventures, a firm focused on FinTech
  • Carol Lee Park, Managing Partner of Lending Ark Capital, specialist private equity firm focused on investing in Asian financial sector including FinTech

Mastering Global E-Commerce

Description: The fourth installment of Citi Fintech Meetup in Miami was held on July 28th. The event was hosted at the newly opened WeWork venue and focused on Global e-Commerce. A panel of industry leaders who had successfully navigated international e-commerce in their careers shared their insights with attendees. Speakers included: Sam Peterson the CTO Open English, Sam Cohen from AirBnb Latin America Operations, Orlando Montiel President of Paz Economical and Nicolas Maslowski CMO of Aeropost. We welcomed Genaro Poulat, Global Market Manager for Citi Private Bank Latin America, who moderated the panel and contributed his global banking expertise to the group.

Urban Challenges and Opportunities for Technology Solutions

Description: Over 130 people were in attendance for the third Citi FinTech Meetup in Miami. Mark Paris (MD & Co-Head of Debt Capital Markets; Head of Urban Innovation Initiative) led a panel discussion focused on how tech can help solve urban challenges. Joining the panel was Russell Benford, Deputy Mayor of Miami-Dade County, the largest county in the State of Florida and the eighth largest in the United States. He shared best practices of engagement with the local government for startups.

Miami as a FinTech Hub for the Americas

Description: In December, Citi launched Citi® FinTech Meetups, the bank's initiative to engage with thriving local developer ecosystems. The inaugural Citi FinTech Meetup was held at The Lab Miami and focused on the city's significance as a financial technology hub connecting the Americas. Featured thought leaders and entrepreneurs included Chris Boos, CEO of Arago; Mike Butcher, Editor-at-Large of TechCrunch; Juan Calle, Founder and CEO of .co Internet; Daniel Pourbaba, Co-founder of Humin; Mariano Amartino, CEO of Wayra Latam.

The event was held as part of the digital conference Sime MIA and was open to the entire financial technology community, connecting entrepreneurs, mentors, investors, and developers.

The initiative launched in Miami in December 2014 to cater to Miami’s rapidly growing technology ecosystem where interest in FinTech and financial inclusion is at an all-time high.
