Shirish Apte is joint Chief Executive Officer of Citi Asia Pacific and CEO of South Asia responsible for all the company's business lines in Australia, Bangladesh, Guam, India, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and Sri Lanka.
Mr. Apte is a member of Citi's Senior Executive and Senior Leadership Committees.
Mr. Apte took over his current role in July 2009 after serving as CEO of Citi's Central & Eastern European Region, which includes some of the fastest-growing emerging markets.
Previously, Mr. Apte was CEO of Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa (CEEMEA), Citi Markets & Banking and before that, he was Country manager and Deputy President of Citibank Handlowy, Poland. Mr. Apte was instrumental in Citigroup acquiring Bank Handlowy, Poland in 2000 and led the merger of Bank Handlowy into Citigroup.
Mr. Apte has more than 26 years' experience with Citi, starting as Relationship Manager with Citibank India. He held various assignments in Corporate Banking, Risk Management and Corporate Finance Investment Banking before becoming Markets & Banking Head in India. Mr. Apte moved to London in 1993 as one of the senior Risk Managers for the group before becoming Corporate Finance Head for CEEMEA, including India.
Mr. Apte is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and has an MBA from London Business School. He is Citi's Senior Statesman at the London Business School.
