- Winners of Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards 2007 Announced in Islamabad

Islamabad – ”It’s not easy to hear your children cry from hunger at night,” recalls Soomran Bhanbro, who lives in Khairpur district, Sind. Soomran’s husband, an unskilled wage laborer, earned very little and hardly enough to feed, clothe and shelter their seven children. Today Soomran’s reality is starkly different – four microloans and five years later she is the successful operator of a medical supply business and employs two contractual staff to aid her.

Karachi: In line with its efforts to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism and promote diversity amongst its employees, Citigroup organized a cricket match, with the children of the SOS Village on Friday 30 March 2007. The match was played at the ground of the SOS Village itself, where the SOS team won. The winning team and the man of the match were given trophies and certificates.

Lahore – Kashf Foundation and Citi’s Citibank N.A. Pakistan have announced the first tranche of a landmark PKR 1.32 billion (US$ 22 million) term financing package arranged by Citibank. This term funding structure is the first commercial syndication for the microfinance sector in the country.

- Blood Bank : March 2007
Karachi: In line with its objective to inculcate a spirit of volunteerism amongst its staff, Citigroup, in liaison with Fatimid Foundation organized a blood camp at its Head Office in Karachi. More than 65 volunteers donated generously towards this noble cause. The blood donated will be used to treat adults and children suffering from ‘Thalassaemia’ and ‘Haemophilia’, blood disorders that require frequent transfusions.

Karachi: A grant of PKR 3 million (US$50,000) to support financial literacy programmes was celebrated at a joint signing ceremony held by Citi Pakistan and Tameer Microfinance Bank April 2 2007. The grant, from the Citigroup Foundation, will support Tameer Foundation’s Community Education & Outreach programme.

Islamabad – in line with its commitment to the promotion and development of microfinance as a viable tool in poverty alleviation, Citigroup has sponsored an 8-day ‘Training of Trainers’ workshop that aims to spread basic financial training amongst low-income households.
Called ‘The Financial Education for the Poor Project’ or FEP, the program is led by international NGO’s ‘Microfinance Opportunities’ and ‘Freedom from Hunger’ with exclusive funding by Citigroup.
- Citigroup IBA Seminar on Risk Management: Citigroup Arranges a Two Week Seminar for Students From Across Pakistan: Dec 2006
Citigroup in collaboration with The Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, (IBA) organized a 12-day seminar titled “Introduction to Risk Management”.
Scheduled from 11th to 23rd December 2006 during the academic winter break, the program was held at the Centre of Executive Education, IBA with 30 students Karachi, Sukkur, Quetta, Multan and Peshawer. Nominations were invited from business schools across the country to ensure participant diversity and maximum reach.

Citigroup employees joined together in volunteer service to celebrate the first Global Community Day on Saturday, 18 th November 2006. Employees from 100 countries and 300 cities participated in volunteer events across the world.
Within the 52 countries in which Citigroup operate in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), more than 10,000 employees, along with friends and families, took part in 80 volunteer community projects addressing specific local community needs.

New York, NY – The Citi Foundation and the Financial Times announced today the launch of “There’s Nothing Micro About It,” a unique microentrepreneurship awareness campaign, which coincides with the Clinton Global Initiative’s 2007 Mid-Year Meeting. The launch of this unique collaborative effort grew out of both organizations’ commitments to microfinance and poverty alleviation made at the 2006 Clinton Global Initiative.
