Old Grammarians Society (OGS)

OGS, founded in 1984, with a modest base of 50 members is the alumni association of one of the premier educational institutions of Pakistan, the Karachi Grammar School (KGS). Over the years, the role of the Society has evolved to providing financial assistance for under privileged students throughout Pakistan. OGS is a vibrant organization with a membership base of over 1000 chapters in Karachi, Lahore, London,

Scholarships are granted after an informed decision making process that includes a detailed application, interview with a Scholarship Committee that consists of the current President and past 6 OGS Presidents. The Scholarship Committee awards merit based scholarships to students whose family circumstances do not allow for education expenditure; however, quarterly reviews of academic performance are undertaken to ensure that students benefiting from the scholarship are taking full advantage of the facility being provided to them. While there are exceptions, OGS Trust aims to support a particular individual until such time that the person has commenced a professional career and can start contributing to his/her family.

Several of the scholarship recipients have received merit based scholarships for education in colleges in UK and USA (e.g. Yale, Princeton, Cambridge). However, OGS Trust limits its assistance to education institutions in Pakistan due to the limited funds at its disposal.

SOS Children’s Village

SOS Children's Villages is an independent, non-governmental social development organization, which has been active in the field of children's needs, concerns and rights since 1949. Its activities focus on neglected and abandoned children and orphans, as well as disadvantaged families. SOS safeguards a child’s right to care, protection and equal opportunities. This is the basic principle according to which SOS Children's Villages carries out its activities in 132 countries and territories. SOS Children's Villages provide family based care and make it possible for children to be part of a family once again. Furthermore, in many cases, SOS provides preventive care to support and stabilize families in times of crisis in order to prevent families from breaking up and children to be uprooted. SOS also provides various "family strengthening" programmes and facilities, which offer targeted promotion, support and advice for socially and economically disadvantaged families at risk of living in poverty.

In addition to providing care for children and young people, running family strengthening programmes and providing vocational training, SOS Children's Villages also caters to people's basic health care through its medical centers in many different locations. These centers are designed for educational and preventive purposes (particularly in the fight against AIDS) and to teach people how best to care for their children and their children's health.
