  APPLICATION PROCESS

No of MFIs & Applications

  • Contact 160 MFIs all over Pakistan
  • Approximately 400 applications expected

Contest Process

  1. Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and Citi send cosigned letter to all MFIs
  2. PPAF distributes the information to the MFIs
  3. PPAF sends the application form with Awards brochure.
  4. MFIs advertise the competition through loan officers.
  5. Students/ interns/ PPAF Staff follow up with MFIs to ensure 5 applications minimum
  6. MFIs send applications to Citi via PPAF.
  7. PPAF & LUMS perform the first round of screening narrowing the number of applications to 50.
  8. Citi Volunteers performs the second round of screening bringing down the total number to 20.
  9. PPAF/ LUMS visit the 20 applicants, accompanied by loan officers, to video-tape short interviews and validate information in application. Video clips to be used for publicity and awareness programs later.
  10. PPAF/Citi coordinate logistics for travel by the 20 micro-entrepreneurs and 20 loan officers to the award location.
  11. The panel of judges or the National Advisory Council chooses the winners and runner ups from the 20 applications.

Contest Guidelines
MFIs are expected to:

  1. Complete the application form in entirety
  2. Each MFI to submit 5 applications
  3. Application must be received by the PPAF before the deadline of September 25th 2007
  4. Clear addresses of the entrepreneurs are listed for possible spot checks
  5. Micro Finance Institutions when screening clients are advised to give attention to:
    1. Contributions of the micro-entrepreneur to their families and communities.
    2. Profitability of business
    3. Growth & Innovation
    4. Employment opportunities generated
    5. Geographic allocation including rural and urban areas
    6. General improvements in lifestyle
    7. Minimum 2 years of micro-credit cycles for eligibility
