Gas Stations Spending Limit

Q: My credit card was declined because I had to make payment exceeding Rs. 10,000. Why?
A: Due to State Bank of Pakistan’s directive, credit card transaction at fuel stations are now limited to a maximum of Rs. 10, 000 per day.  

Q: How much am I entitled to spend on my credit card?
A: Following is a brief summary of directive:

• Applies to credit card transactions at fuel stations only.
• Maximum expenditure is Rs 10,000 per day per credit card.
• There is no limit on the number of transactions.

You can make any number of transactions at fuel stations as long as the TOTAL CUMULATIVE AMOUNT ON ONE CREDIT CARD does not exceed Rs. 10,000 in one day. Maximum amount of a SINGLE transaction is Rs. 10,000.

Q: Does this apply to all other banks’ credit cards that I have?
A: Yes. State Bank of Pakistan’s has directed all credit card issuing banks to implement this directive with effect from January 1, 2009.

Q: My credit card was declined because I had made payment exceeding Rs. 10,000. When will I be able to use my credit card again at a fuel station?
A: If you have already spent Rs 10,000 or more at a fuel station, you will be able to use your credit card again after 2 A.M tomorrow morning. We cannot give an exact time as the system runs at the end of the day and the duration that it runs each night varies from time to time.  

Q: Is this directive limited to a particular fuel station?
A: No. The limit is across all fuel stations and not a limit per station.

Q: I have more than 2 (or more) credit cards. Can I charge more than Rs 10,000 on my credit cards?
A: Yes. The limit is for each credit card. Therefore, if you have 2 credit cards, you can spend up to Rs 20,000, with 3 cards you can spend up to Rs 30,000, and so on.

Q: Is this directive applicable only on fuel?
A: This directive is applicable on credit card transactions at fuel stations and thus applicable on total spending irrespective of whether expenditure is on CNG, petrol, diesel, oil changes, mart/shop etc. 

Q: Is this directive applicable on CNG/Diesel?
A: Yes, this directive includes all spending at fuel stations, including expenditure at the mart/shop.

Q: Is this directive applicable for oil changes, tires, etc?
A: Yes, this directive includes all spending at fuel stations, including expenditure at the mart/shop.  

Q: Does this apply if I make payment with cash?
A: No, this regulation is only applicable for payments made at fuel stations using credit cards.

Q: What if I have more than one car? Is it applicable per car?
A: This limit is applicable on the total amount of money charged on your credit card at fuel stations per day and thus applicable even if fuel is filled in more than one car but charged on one credit card.
