How to Protect Yourself

  • When you login to online banking, ensure that no one is watching you while you key in your PIN or any other sensitive information.

  • Always remember to immediately log out when you have finished your online banking session.

  • Keep your ATM PIN confidential and keep it separate from your Card information. Your ATM PIN should be memorized and not recorded anywhere.

  • Do not disclose your ATM PIN to anyone. Not even to Citibank employees.

  • Do not keep your ATM PIN the same as the Telephone PIN used for accessing IVR.

  • Do not change your ATM PIN to one based on your telephone number, birth date or other personal information.

  • Never lend your card to anyone or accept advice from strangers while you are using it.

  • Do not use a computer or a device that cannot be trusted for online banking, such as a public or Internet Cafe computer.

  • Whenever you need to use the ATM PIN, please ensure that you do the following :
    • Check if this is a Citibank site. The URL is www.citibank.com.pk.
    • Verify the security of the site. This depends on the type of browser you use, Netscape 4.7 and IE 5.5 does this by showing a locked padlock. Microsoft Internet Explorer displays a lock on the status bar.
    • Click on the unbroken lock. Input your ATM PIN only if the site shows you the Citibank certificate

  • Protect yourself against computer viruses by having the latest virus checking software and firewalls installed on your computer, particularly if you are linked to the Internet via any broadband connection, digital subscriber lines or cable modems.

  • Update your anti-virus and firewall products with security patches or newer versions on a regular basis.

  • Clear your Browser's cache and history after each session so that your account information is removed, especially if you are using a shared computer.

  • Use the latest recommended Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Browser version, or one that supports 128-bit encryption. If you use Internet Explorer 5, you need to de-activate the "Auto Complete" function to prevent any user ID and PIN from being stored.

    1. Launch your Internet Explorer 5 and click on "Tools" - "Internet Options" - "Content"
    2. Under "Personal Information", click on "AutoComplete".
    3. Uncheck "User names and passwords on forms" and click on "Clear Passwords".
    4. Click on "OK" to save the changes.

  • If you are using a Windows OS, ensure File and Print sharing is disabled while online, particularly if you are linked to the Internet via any broadband connection, digital subscriber lines or cable modems.

  • Do not install software or run programs of an unknown origin.

  • Scan any attachments you receive via email and immediately delete any suspicious emails with attachments.

  • Check your accounts on a regular basis and contact Citibank immediately at our 24-hour CitiPhone Banking at 111-222-222 should you encounter any difficulties or irregularities.
