Citi Organizes a Cricket Match with Children of the SOS Village

Karachi: In line with its efforts to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism and promote diversity amongst its employees, Citigroup organized a cricket match, with the children of the SOS Village on Friday 30 March 2007. The match was played at the ground of the SOS Village itself, where the SOS team won. The winning team and the man of the match were given trophies and certificates.

SOS director/caretaker Mrs Hashmi said, “We are very thankful to Citigroup for regularly organizing such events in collaboration with the SOS village. These occasions not only provide our children with respite from their daily routines, but also give them the opportunity to interact with a spectrum of people from diverse backgrounds, thereby enhancing their exposure to the outside world”.

According to one of the volunteers participating in the match, “It was heart warming to see the excitement on the children’s faces, especially when they were given the trophy and certificate. Quite obviously, it was a big day for them. Employees should pursue such philanthropic efforts on their own accord also, to sustain the drive for volunteerism.”

SOS Children's Villages is an independent, non-governmental organization for social development and has been active in the field of children's needs, concerns and rights since 1949. Its activities focus on neglected and abandoned children and orphans, as well as disadvantaged families.
