Citi Pakistan employees in Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore voluntarily forfeited their weekend to devote time to their communities as part of Citi’s global effort to celebrate employee volunteerism. Volunteers in Pakistan joined more than 55,000 Citi volunteers in 100 countries for the company’s second annual “Global Community Day.” More than 350 volunteers across Pakistan, including employees and their families and friends, worked on Saturday, November 17 to provide support to 5 different projects in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore.
In Pakistan 155 volunteers donated blood to Fatimid Foundation in Lahore and Karachi and PIMS in Islamabad by way of contribution towards blood banks that provide free transfusions to thallasaemic children. An additional 80 volunteers worked tirelessly to organize an educational excursion and career-counseling session for 260 students of TCF’s Sumar Goth Senior School in Karachi- while 200 volunteers from Lahore organized a fun-fair for 850 primary school children of CARE foundation Lahore.
Each project was designed to address the different needs of underprivileged children- ranging from medical to educational and recreational.
Citi’s Country Officer and Managing Director Zubyr Soomro, its Consumer Business Head Aftab Ahmed and several of Citi’s senior management were all part of the volunteer brigade.
“Citi is committed to mobilizing the enthusiasm and talents of our employees so that they can make a positive difference in the communities where we work together. Citi’s Global Community Day is company-wide, with tens of thousands of volunteers in Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and North America. It is a symbol of the many ways we make a difference, through our business practices, our philanthropy and our volunteerism,” said Zubyr Soomro while mentoring three 16 year old students of the TCF.
A TCF program manager also present at the Karachi event said “We are thrilled with this field trip- the PAF museum is a rich reminder of our country’s history and our students especially loved the tours given by Citi’s volunteers. The care and planning that has gone in to this event is evident. Moreover the counseling sessions on potential career paths is especially appreciated as our students need to see and be inspired by role models”
Citi’s Global Community Day is a worldwide effort involving hundreds of projects in hundreds of cities around the world. Recognizing that many Citi employees volunteer year-round in their communities, Global Community Day was instituted to celebrate Citi’s volunteer spirit on one-day worldwide.
