Citibank Zrt. Hungary, a member of Citi, formally launched
its Plant-a-Tree Program announced in June by planting the first
oak saplings in the beginning of October.
Citibank's promise with announcing this program was to plant a
tree for every customer who switches from printed bank account statement
to paperless e-statement. The program that runs successfully at
a number of Citi franchises around the world is dedicated to raise
environmental awareness among customers.
"Until June when we announced this program about three thousand
customers registered to an e-statement and this number has grown
to eight thousand to date. We are expecting a total of ten thousand
customers who will have been selected this environmental friendly
solution by the end of this year. I would like to thank to all our
customers and colleagues who made it possible to support the local
community through the paperless e-statements." said Batara
Sianturi, Citi Country Officer for Citibank Zrt.
Since from announcing the program in June more than eight thousand
customers registered to the e-statement, Citibank will continue
the program next year, following planting the six thousand oak trees
that were committed for 2008. This Autumn the new oak tree forest
will be established with the support of Citibank in partnership
with the Forests for the Community Foundation and the Pilisi Parkerdo
Forestry Company in Kamaraerdo, a special environmental area in
a suburb of Budapest, in replacement of a superannuated locust forest
damaged by a Spring storm.
"We are pleased to experience more and more major players
of the economy undertaking a conscious responsibility to preserve
the nature. Such initiatives are a sign of long-term vision and
commitment to support the communities. This is especially true in
the area around the capital, where conserving the forests also means
directly supporting the lives of people living here." said
Péter Csépányi, production and environmental protection chief engineer
of Pilisi Parkerdo Forestry Company.
In addition to making a significant step to protect the environment,
the e-statement allows customers to view their statements online
for up to two years following the registration to the service, providing
an easy access to account activity on a computer anywhere, anytime.
