Budapest, Hungary, August 29, 2002 - Citibank Hungary, a member
of Citigroup, today announced that 50,000 Hungarians now carry the
Westel - Citibank co-branded VISA credit card.
The card has proved popular among customers because of the ease of applying and the impressive features including automatic mobile phone bill payment from the credit card. Only those individual post-paid customers of Westel, who are members of the Westel 'Gold' reward program, can apply for the credit card.
Applications can be made at Citibank branches where approved customers qualify for 25 percent discounted annual fee in the first year.
Citibank, the world's number one credit card issuer with more than 100 million credit card holders around the world, focuses on competitive advantages to ensure that customers understand the difference between a debit and credit card.
Using a credit card, customers can buy a high value item, without having to save up in advance, the cost of which they can pay back later. Customers can get a credit limit which can be three times their net monthly income. In case of the Westel-Citibank co-branded VISA credit card, the credit limit is based on their previous mobile phone bills. Credit card holders can enjoy up to 46 days of free credit on their purchases. With a credit card, customers use their credit limit instead of their own money when buying items with their card.
Zdenek Turek, Country Corporate Officer for Citibank Rt. said: "Our relationship with Westel is an excellent example of the great achievements a long-term strategic alliance can bring. We are very satisfied with the results and look forward to expanding and strengthening our partnership with Westel."
