Thirty secondary school students and 30 economics teachers
will take part in the 11th annual 'Economics for Leaders' summer
program at Paradfurdo this week which is sponsored by the Citigroup
Foundation, part of the world's largest bank, Citigroup.
The program, which provides training for future business leaders and economic teachers, is organized in partnership with Junior Achievement Hungary (JAM) in association with the US-based Foundation for Teaching Economics.
Zdenek Turek, Country Corporate Officer for Citibank said: "Citibank is strongly committed to supporting education and we are delighted to be able to help today's young people along the path to a successful future. This summer camp is an excellent opportunity for participants to acquire knowledge and learn to enjoy economics."
The aim of the program is to teach students about the business environment and free market economy and to provide them with the skills that are essential in today's competitive job market.
During the training US economics professor Ken Leonard, along with Hungarian lecturers and Citibank professionals, will hold a series of economics lessons covering topics such as Distribution of Goods; Competition and Market Power; Profit and Entrepreneurs or Deficit and National Debt.
The training includes role-playing activities - aimed at developing management skills - and various kinds of economics-related games including one focused on the working of the grain exchange. Teachers and students also have the opportunity to take part in a game jointly developed by Citibank and JAM called Banks in Action, a simulation software created to help inject some colour and excitement into regular school lessons.
Ivan Javorszky, managing director of JAM, said, "Teachers and students will return from the camp with a completely different attitude having gained a better understanding of economics. We are pleased to have attracted such excellent training staff to Paradfurdo and to work with partners such as Citibank and the Foundation for Teaching Economics."
