Citibank Rt., a member of Citigroup, today announced the
launch of its 2001-2002 School Charity Program, in partnership with
Junior Achievement Hungary, with a $60,000 grant donated by the
Citigroup Foundation which will provide financial and economic materials
to more than 7,000 students in12 elementary schools across Hungary.
Citibank Rt. and Junior Achievement Hungary - a leading non-profit organization which teaches free enterprise to students across the country - have jointly developed this program which aims to provide elementary schools with technology-based curriculum resources, innovative teaching strategies and materials which increase students' knowledge, skills and performance in the areas of economics, mathematics, finance and English language.
Part of the package - a state-of-the art computer, mathematics and English teaching software and high profile economics books for school libraries - will be ready for use this week.
The program also includes development of economics and financial software for grades 5-8 which will be ready by the end of Spring next year. This software provides improvements on the printed teaching materials developed by Junior Achievement in the USA and adopted by Junior Achievement in Hungary. Information is up-to-date and includes international and Hungarian examples and simulation exercises to ensure that students become familiar with business life in general.
Mark T. Robinson, Country Corporate Officer for Citibank Rt., said, "I believe this program is an excellent opportunity for students to develop an interest and learn about economics. Citibank is strongly committed to supporting education and we are delighted to be able to support Hungary's youth in building a successful future."
Ivan Javorszky, managing director for JAM said: "By providing 12 elementary schools with up-to-date teaching materials and books, we are helping young people take a step forward in their careers. We are delighted that this program has come to fruition through the cooperation of the non-profit and the business communities. "
