Citibank Online - Frequently Asked Questions

Using Citibank Online with Windows XP

Microsoft has released a major update to Windows XP called Service Pack 2. This contains fixes and enhancements accumulated over the previous year. If you have installed Service Pack 2 you may find difficulty in using Citibank Online and may need to make the changes below.

Service Pack 2 contains an enhancement to Microsoft Internet Explorer that, by default, blocks unexpected pop-up windows and Citibank Online appears in a pop-up.

There are two effects this can have on the way Citibank Online functions. The first may prevent you from successfully downloading your account activity; the second may prevent the sign-on window from appearing. To overcome these issues, please visit the FAQs in the Citibank Online section for the following issues: You will only need to make any changes once, after which there should be no further problems in this respect.

I cannot download my account activity
After requesting the download, you may see a yellow bar appear at the top of the Internet Explorer window with a message saying ‘To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options…’
(see the example below).

This will block the download window from appearing; making it seem the download feature is not working properly.

To enable the download, click the yellow bar and a menu will appear. Select ‘Allow downloads from this site’. Your page will reload, and then you can attempt to download your account activity again.

So you do not have to carry out the above procedure each time you sign-in, you can change your Internet Options. Please follow the instructions below.

Note, if you have already signed-on to Citibank Online, please log-out and close this window.

Select ‘Internet Options…’ from the ‘Tools’ menu in Internet Explorer. The following window will appear.

Select the ‘Security’ tab at the top of the window. Click the ‘Custom Level…’ button toward the bottom of this window. (see below).

In the window that appears, scroll down to find the option titled ‘Automatic prompting for file downloads’ and change the selected option to ‘Enable’ (see below).

Click OK, then OK again. You will now be able to download files from Citibank Online without the pop-up being blocked.
