6th Food Donation by Citi employes.
Athens, January 16th, 2013.
The 6th Food Donation was recently completed by Citi Greece employees on the grounds of the Bank’s social responsibility and volunteerism, which is one of the main pillars of Citi’s citizenship strategy.
The Food Donation initiative was launched in 2009 on an annual basis, but since 2011 it is organized twice a year, having evolved into a statute. On Christmas 2012, the employees at Citi donated 3,000 items of food (pasta, milk, rice, lettuce, canned food and 414 kg of olive oil, sugar and flour, which will be distributed to frail groups of people through the Food Bank in Athens and Thessaloniki.
More specifically, the “Food Bank-Institution for the Fight Against Hunger”, which covers the needs of 30,500 people each week, who resort to 248 institutions and common meals in Athens and Thessaloniki, while only in 2012 it distributed 1,405 tons of food.
The spirit of volunteering is embedded in Citi’s culture globally. The value of volunteerism was underlined last June 2012 when it was chosen to celebrate the Bank’s 200 years anniversary with 1,300 social work initiatives in 92 countries with the support of 100,000 volunteers, at the most multitudinous Citi Global Community Day (the Bank’s annual volunteerism day) ever at the Bank’s history. In Greece, the anniversary and Global Community Day was celebrated with 12 volunteering activities focusing on people and the environment.
