Diners Card and Chrissoi Skoufoi: A glorious ceremony and a unique Special Creativity Award.

The prize award “Chrissoi Skoufoi 2007” for the best restaurants in Greece, was successfully performed on Monday, April 16, for the 14th consecutive year. Once again, Diners Club, being the official Sponsor of this top gourmet institution and supporter of gourmet tastes, awarded the Special Creativity Award to the renowned chef patissiers of Spondi restaurant, for their exquisite desserts!

The President of Diners Club International in Greece, Mr. Chris Vasilliades, presented the award to the chef Giles Marchal and to the chef patissier Vincent Doidy of Spondi, whose creativity stood out among 77 final candidates.

The relation of Diners Club to the gourmet field exists for the past 58 years, since it was literally “born” inside a restaurant! In 1949, a businessman named Frank McNamara “conceived” the meaning of the very first card in the world, when he was embarrassed by realising that he had forgotten to take his wallet with him.

How easy it would be if, instead of money, he carried with him a card…and so, he left his business card at the restaurant, with the promise of returning the next day to pay. And that was how, in a restless and sharp mind, Diners Club was born, the first and most known card among all other cards. Ever since, Diners Club continues to “discover” exquisite tastes, while rewarding the gourmet quests and supporting actively the “Chrissoi Skoufoi” institution.
