UK Funds Transfers


Citibank Global Transfers

Citibank Global Transfers are free of all transaction fees* and allow you to send funds instantly between Citibank accounts in over 20 countries worldwide. If you hold Citibank accounts in more than one country, Citibank Global Transfers are the easiest way to manage your money across borders.

Key information:

  • Citibank Global Transfers can be arranged via Citibank Online, your Relationship Manager, Citibank ATMs or at Citibank branches worldwide.
  • You can send funds via Citibank Global Transfers every day (subject to individual country laws and monetary limits maintained by the different countries).
  • Funds are debited from your account immediately and available to use in the recipient's account straight away.
  • If the transfer is made across currencies a Citibank exchange rate will be applied.
  • An active Debit/ATM card is required to use the service.

How to use Citibank Online to make a Global Funds Transfer:

Want to transfer money to a new payee?

  1. Sign on to Citibank Online and go to the 'Payments & Transfers' section.
  2. Select 'Add a payee for new or one-off transfers' from the menu.
  3. Choose 'A Citibank customer in another country' as the type of payee.
  4. Choose the country that the account is located in and fill in the payee and account details as required.

Want to transfer funds to an existing payee?

  1. Sign on to Citibank Online Online and go to the 'Payments & Transfers' section.
  2. Select the 'Transfer to a Citibank account abroad (Existing Payee)' option from the menu.
  3. Choose the account from which you'd like to transfer funds, then select the Citibank account holder abroad you'd like to send the funds to.
  4. Enter the amount you would like to transfer.
  5. Confirm the details of the transaction, enter your e-PIN, click 'Next' and the transaction will be completed.

Important information:
*Citibank Exchange rates apply to transfers made across currencies. The exchange rate will be confirmed before the transaction is carried out. In certain circumstances, Citibank will contact you to confirm your request before processing the transfer. This is to maintain the security of your account and is designed to protect your interests.

SWIFT Funds Transfers

SWIFT Funds Transfers provide another way to transfer money between countries worldwide. You can send funds via the SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Communications) network to most countries overseas, in most currencies.

Key information:

  • SWIFT Funds Transfers usually clear within 1-5 working days.
  • You can make a SWIFT Funds Transfer via your Relationship Manager.
  • A competitive fee is charged for each transfer and a Citibank exchange rate may be applied to cross currency transfers. See the Fee Schedule for London or Jersey for more details.

What you need to make a SWIFT Funds Transfer from your account:

Please have the following information ready before you request a SWIFT Funds Transfer:

  • The Citibank International Personal Bank account number you wish to transfer funds from
  • The amount and currency you wish to transfer
  • The BIC (Bank Identifier Code)/SWIFT Code and IBAN (International Bank Account Number, in a European country) of the account you are transferring funds to. You will need to ask the payee for this information.
  • Full name and address of the beneficiary bank
  • Correspondent bank details for payments in currencies different to that of the receiving country e.g. if you are paying US Dollars to the UK.

SEPA Funds Transfers – London only*

SEPA (Single European Payment Area) Funds Transfers are free and enable you to make payments in Euros from your account to another account anywhere within the Single European Payment Area quickly and safely.

Key information:

  • Send money to any bank account in Europe.
  • No Citibank fees apply.
  • No foreign exchange commission on transfers from Citibank Euro current and deposit accounts.
  • You can make SEPA Transfers via your Relationship Manager.
  • Funds usually clear within 3 working days.

SEPA Funds Transfers (also referred to as 'Euro BACS' payments) are available across 31 countries in and around Europe. You can see a full list of participating countries below.

What you need to make a SEPA Funds Transfer:

Please have the following information ready before you request a SEPA Funds Transfer:

  • The Citibank IPB account number you wish to transfer funds from.
  • The amount in Euros you wish to transfer.
  • The full name of the person or company you wish to pay and their bank account number
  • The BIC (Bank Identifier Code) and IBAN (International Bank Account Number) of the account to which you are transferring funds. You will need to ask the payee for this information.

Important Information:
*Please note that as Jersey is outside the European Union, you can only use the SEPA Funds Transfer method to deposit money into your Euro accounts held there. You cannot use SEPA to make payments from your Euro accounts held in Jersey.

BACS Funds Transfers – Jersey only

BACS Funds Transfers work exclusively within the UK and can be used to transfer money to another UK account or make a payment (Direct Debit, standing order or ad hoc payment) to another UK account.

Key information:

  • BACS Funds Transfers are free of charge.
  • Your funds are normally credited in 3 - 4 working days.
  • BACS Funds Transfers can be arranged via Citibank Online and your Relationship Manager.
  • Costs/charges may be incurred when processing a funds transfer via another bank.

What you need to make a BACS Funds Transfers:

If you wish to make a BACS Funds Transfer, please provide us with the following information:

  • The full account name of the person or company you wish to pay
  • The name of their bank, branch and six digit sort code
  • Their bank account number
  • The amount to be paid
  • Payment reference (if required)

Please note, in certain circumstances we will contact you to confirm your request before processing it – e.g. if you are making a withdrawal for a large sum of money. This is to maintain the security of your account and is designed to protect your interests.

CHAPS Transfers (for telegraphic transfers within the UK)

CHAPS Transfers allow you to transfer funds quickly and easily within the UK on the same day.

Key information:

  • CHAPS Funds Transfers can be arranged via your Relationship Manager.
  • CHAPS Funds Transfers will be made on the same day you request the transfer provided you call before 11.00am GMT.
  • There is a competitive fee for this service – see our Fee Schedule for London or Jersey for more details.

What you need to make a CHAPS Funds Transfer :

If you wish to send a CHAPS payment within the UK, please provide us with the following information:

  • The full account name of the person or company you wish to pay
  • The name of their bank, branch and 6 digit sort code
  • Their bank account number
  • The amount to be paid
  • Payment reference (if required)

Important information:
Please note, in certain circumstances we will contact you to confirm your request before processing it – e.g. if you are making a withdrawal for a large sum of money. This is designed to maintain your account security and protect your interests.

Transferring Funds into your account

What you need to transfer funds into your account:

To make sure your funds are transferred into your account quickly and easily, you should provide the information detailed in the "Transferring Funds into your account" document for London and Jersey.

In some circumstances, you may need to quote an International Account Number (IBAN). Please use the IBAN given in the Funds Transfer guide and NOT the one quoted on your statements.

Important information:
Please note that all payments are subject to cut-off times so payments may not always be processed same day.
