      A Clean, Well-Warmed Place: Helping Mongolians Acquire Safe Cookstoves

      Ulan Bator is one of the coldest capital cities in the world. And, as in some other countries with emerging economies, many Mongolians use inefficient, unhealthy cookstoves for heating and cooking, the offshoot of which is air pollution. MicroEnergy Credits had an idea: partner with a microfinance institution to distribute clean-burning, fuel-efficient cookstoves. Because of our global reach, they were able to turn to Citi for help. Today, more than 100,000 households in Mongolia are using these stoves.

      Expanding Access to Education in Puerto Rico

      Nearly 600,000 students rely on the Puerto Rico Department of Education. From pencils to hearing aids, they are the country's biggest buyer of education equipment. But their purchasing process was cumbersome, and students had to wait months for supplies. Working with government officials to create a purchasing card program, Citi provided school administrators buying flexibility and offered an easier way to track funds. Local vendors are now paid more quickly and students receive materials faster than ever.
